They set up a distinction between the\u00a0sceptical approach to data analysis undertaken by statisticians and the\u00a0more swashbuckling approaches taken by Infovis researchers. Their\u00a0techniques for graphical inference attempt to bridge these divides by\u00a0provid[ing] tool[s] for skepticism [sic.] that can be applied in a\u00a0curiosity driven context. We wish to evaluate one such technique, the\u00a0line-up method, and suggest guidelines for its use.
